Davao Museum

Davao Museum

Davao Museum is the other museum in Davao City mentioned in my previous post. The museum is a two-storey building which showcases the work of cultural minorities of Southern Mindanao: the Mandaya, Maranao, T´boli and Bagobo people. It houses antique religious artifacts, large-scale versions of old maps of Mindanao and the Philippines, centuries-old Asian trade jars, an original Arabian text, a  rare Bagobo Giangan Dagmay, centuries-old figures of saints carved mostly in ivory and wood, and several collections of artifacts from private collections.

The museum also features life-size dioramas depicting Davao’s diverse culture, showcasing the history of the T’boli and the intricate patterns in their Tinalak or traditional weaving.

The property on which the Davao Museum now stands was donated by the Filipinas Foundation Inc. (now Ayala Foundation Inc.) in 1976. A year later, the Davao Museum of Ethnography was opened to the public.

Davao Museum is located at 113 Agusan Circle, Insular Village Phase I, Lanang, Davao City, and is open from Mondays to Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays by appointment. Admission is P100 per person. For group tour, you may call (082) 233-1734 (082) 233-1734 to book in advance.

While taking of photographs inside the museum is allowed, publishing them is not encouraged by the museum.

  1. I have never been to Davao and probably never will but it is nice to dream, and thank goodness for Google earth where I was looking down on Davao Museum. Thank you for the site.

  2. As I clearly remembered we've been here for our educational field trip and I certainly love the place especially those cool old artistic knives and artifacts.
